The Local Wildlife
Our Holiday cottages are ideally located for spotting the local wildlife. The Vendée has an abundance of birds and small mammals, along with butterflies and insects. There are miles of signposted walks and cycle paths in the area; some take you right off the beaten track, where you can see herds of deer grazing in the forest glades, or birds of prey hovering over the cornfields.
One of our neighbours, Sébastien You, is a keen wildlife photographer, and he has offered to share some of his findings with us.
Here is a selection of some of his recent images. These were all taken in the country lanes and waterways around Gites Les Chaffauds, and if you enjoy nature, then you too could spot some of these species whilst exploring the countryside.
We have lots of information leaflets in the holiday homes letting you know where the cycling and walking routes are and what you are likely to see en route. The landscape in the area is made up of undulating hills and flat plains, so nothing too demanding for amateur walkers or cyclists.
We can also arrange cycle hire for you if you do not want to bring your own bikes.
